Seedream 5 Flash vs Lite vs Pro: Which One Should You Use?
We ran Seedream 5 Flash, Lite and Pro on real jobs. Here is what each tier costs, how large and fast it renders, and when to pick it.

Start with Flash. It is the cheapest and quickest Seedream 5 tier, and it is good enough for most drafts. Move to Lite when you need 4K or a matching set of images. Move to Pro for the final version of a piece, or when you want control over how far the model rewrites your prompt.
The name "Lite" misleads people. Lite is not a cut-down Pro. It is the only tier here that outputs 4K and the only one that makes image sets, while Pro stops at 2K.
Below is what we saw when we ran each tier on Seedream5 AI on November 8, 2026. These are single runs, not a benchmark, so treat the timings as a rough guide.
The three tiers at a glance
| Flash | Lite | Pro | |

| WaveSpeed list price per image | $0.027 | $0.035 | $0.045, or $0.09 at 2K |
| Credits on Seedream5 AI | 6 | 7 | 9, or 18 at 2K |
| Largest output | 2K | 4K | 2K |
| How you set the size | Ratio plus 1K, 1.5K or 2K | Exact pixels | Ratio plus 1K, 1.5K or 2K |
| Reference images per edit | 10 | 10 | 10 |
| Cost of extra references | None | None | $0.003 each after the first |

| Prompt rewrite choice | No | No | Standard or fast |
Prices come from the Flash, Lite and Pro model pages. Flash and Pro carried a 10% discount on the day we checked, which we left out because it can end.
Flash: the default for drafts
Our Flash test returned a 1024 x 1024 image in about 15 seconds, including upload to our storage. Every resolution costs the same on Flash, so there is rarely a reason to stay at 1K: ask for 2K and pay nothing extra.

Reference images do not change the price either. An edit with ten references costs what an edit with one costs. In our edit test, Flash moved a perfume bottle onto a beach in about 12 seconds and kept the bottle as it was.
Lite: 4K output and matching sets
Lite takes an exact pixel size instead of a ratio and a tier. Our 16:9 test at 4K came back at 3840 x 2160 in about 31 seconds, for the same price as a 2K image.

The other reason to choose Lite is sets. Ask for several images and it keeps characters and objects consistent across them. We asked for two storyboard frames of the same small robot, and the character, room and light all carried over. The set took about 74 seconds, so it is not quick.

Two practical notes for sets:
- Say how many images you want in the prompt as well as in the menu. WaveSpeed says the two should match.
- You pay for the number you select, even if fewer come back. A set of 8 on Seedream5 AI costs 56 credits.
Generate 2 storyboard images of the same small robot: first watering a plant, then smiling beside the bloomed flower
Testar este promptPro: for the final version
Pro is the tier to reach for when an image is going out into the world. It costs about two thirds more than Flash at 1K and 1.5K, and 2K doubles that.
It is also the only tier that lets you choose how the prompt is rewritten before rendering. WaveSpeed describes the fast option as several times quicker, but less faithful to long or intricate prompts. With the fast rewrite, our 3:4 poster test at 1.5K came back at 1330 x 1773 in about 25 seconds, with the headline spelled correctly.

If your prompt is short, the fast setting is a sensible place to start. If it runs to several sentences of specific detail, stay on standard.
Layer splits: Flash or Pro
Both Flash and Pro can pull one image apart into a base and transparent PNG layers. It is useful when you want to move a product around in a design tool, but it costs far more than rendering a picture, so use it on images you have already settled on.
Our Flash run on a beach scene returned three files in about 32 seconds of processing: the full background, the sand on its own and the bottle on its own.

One caution from testing: the same endpoint rejected a plain packshot on an empty white background. We could not work out why, and a similar image went through. Seedream5 AI returns your credits when this happens.
Which tier should you pick?
- Trying ideas, social posts, or anything you will regenerate: Flash at 2K.
- A wallpaper, a print file or anything that needs 4K: Lite.
- A storyboard, a character sheet or a campaign set: Lite with an image count.
- A final poster or key visual at up to 2K: Pro on the standard rewrite.
- Editable pieces for a design tool: Flash layers first, since they cost much less than Pro.
A cheap way to work is to find the composition on Flash, then send the same prompt to Pro or Lite once it looks right.
FAQ
Is Seedream 5 Lite better than Pro?
They do different jobs. Lite goes to 4K and makes matching sets. Pro stops at 2K, costs more, and offers a choice of prompt rewriting. We did not run a blind quality comparison, so we would not claim one always looks better.
Can Seedream 5 make 4K images?
On Seedream5 AI, yes, through Lite. Flash and Pro both stop at 2K.
How do I use Seedream 5 Pro?
Pick Seedream 5 Pro in the model menu, choose 1K, 1.5K or 2K and a ratio, and write your prompt. Attach up to 10 images if you want to edit or combine them. The Generate button shows the credits before you start.
Is Seedream 5 free?
Running it costs money, but new accounts on Seedream5 AI get enough free credits for one Flash image at the default settings.
